 Resident - By Doug Steele

Voices from the Street
Resident
By Doug Steele

I came to the Light house Mission on Febuary 15. I feel blessed to be here. Although I am very young in sobriety and in this program, I feel very different than I have in any other program I have been in.

I am a low bottem alcoholic and crack head. I came here after about a year of heavy drinking and crack smoking which was preceded by a year of sobriety. After entering Good Samaritan Hospital with pancratitis caused by alcoloh abuse I entered the detox program there and stayed 6 days.

When I was released I went immedeately to the Lighthouse and got a tour. I was immeditely struck by the friendliness of the staff I met that day. That day I had an interview and was accepted into the program the following day.

When I arrived at the facility with all my worldly goods I was welcomed with open arms by the residents, one, Charles even offered his bed since I have an avession to top bunks and tend to fall out.

This incident is just one of the handful of what I choose to call "miriacles" that have occurred since my arrival. The Light house has been like a rock for me in my search for a better spiritual life and permanent sobriety.
